RSPO appreciates India and China because these countries are starting to show their commitment towards certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO). As the biggest palm oil markets, the commitment from both countries could immense propensity to influence worldwide advancement of sustainable palm oil. The Secretary General RSPO Darrel Webber said that currently India is the world’s largest consumer and importer of palm oil with 20% market share with a palm oil footprint of approximately 2 million hectares and imports of over 7.2 million metric tons. While China is the second largest importer of palm oil in the world with 16% and imported around 5.9 million tons in 2011 with a palm oil footprint of approximately 1.5 million hectares.
